Olympus LS Linear PCM Recorder No Power Repair

We purchased this audio recorder in 2011 and at the time it was one of the best portable recording solutions available. I have recorded many live events with it directly from its external mics and through a line output from a mixer and the recordings have been outstanding to say the least. I currently use it to record the audio for all my YouTube videos and the reason why I like it so much is because it has a low cut filter. But just recently, like this year, I noticed it started playing up. So what would happen is the POWER ON mechanism, it works off a slide switch. Monetary ON and Monetary OFF. I would push the switch and it would take longer than usual to register the movement. This gradually increased to longer and longer durations and then eventually it would not start at all. Now, I did a bit of research and I found that Olympus have many more models that use this same slide switch mechanism but I was not able to find a single reference or video about this issue I was experiencing. Nobody to my knowledge has documented this issue or made a video about it. This model has been discontinued now and i was not able to locate any of the parts I needed or schematics to repair it. Well I found out what the problem is and today I’m going to show you how to repair it without needing to replace any parts whatsoever.
